Cancer, Research, Liquid Biopsy, Early Detection, Screening
My name is Maria and I come from Cyprus, a sunny island in the Mediterranean. I moved abroad after finishing my PhD in Medical Genetics, to work on Cancer research.
Currently, I am working for Cancer Research UK, in beautiful Cambridge, with amazing scientists and clinicians where we aim to beat cancer. My research focus on detecting cancer early by developing sensitive non-invasive tests for identifying circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) fragments in blood. I am particularly interested in Breast and Ovarian cancer. If we achieve to detect cancer earlier we would be able to provide treatment to patients at earlier stage of the disease that increases the chances of survival. My long term goal is to develop sensitive screening and diagnostic tests that would enable clinicians to offer personalised cancer treatment options to every woman.
